Long considered beautiful but useless land that early settlers used to burn off to prevent forest fires, the Pine Hills is a known fire hazard area.

The May 8, 1957 Fire

The map below is on the wall in the District 2 headquarters at Myles Standish State Forest.
It shows some of the major fires that have burned in the Plymouth / Carver area including the massive 1957 fire which burned the area now occupied by The Pinehills north of Beaver Dam Road.
