Land Use around Great Island

Spring, 2001
Great Island Pond is in the center of the photograph (white clouds are reflected in the image). Land use in the area around the community includes;
- The Pinehills golf course (Nicklaus Design Course) in the upper left hand corner of the photograph.
- Exit 3 off the Pilgrim highway (Rt. 3) in the lower left corner.
- The lower-right hand corner of the photograph shows several cranberry bogs.
- The area east of the pond is forest owned mostly by the Town of Plymouth.
- In the upper-right is the Manomet residential area of Plymouth.
- The Town of Plymouth landfill can be seen just north of the community.
- The New Bedford Gas & Edison Light Company power line easement can be seen cutting straight through the center of the community.
- The Pinehills wastewater treatment facility can be seen (cleared area) to the left of the power line easment.
- The Pinehills water supply facility can be seen across the street from the community (circular parcel).
Since the land on all four corners of Exit 3 is either owned by The Pinehills, LLC or held in a conservation restriction by the Town of Plymouth, Exit 3 will probably remain in it's current undeveloped state, preserving the rural nature of the area.
