This woods fire started in the Clam Pudding Pond area off of Old Sandwich Road. The initial response was in the early morning around 9:00 AM. The fire was pretty much under control by noontime, but as the wind of the afternoon came up the fire got a new life. It almost crossed Beaver Dam Road just east of Old Sandwich Road, but it was stopped.

If it had crossed Beaver Dam Road it would have shot up the south side of the Pine Hills and then gone right to the nuclear plant on Rocky Hill Road. I believe this fire was in the early fall of 1978. I remember just becoming a Lieutenant, and trying to get onto a truck heading for the fire.

If the new Station 3 is was built at that time it would have been within a stones throw of this location, and would of been the first Station to respond to this fire. This is a know fire hazard area and I have no doubt that Station 3 will be involved in many fires in this area.
