Great Island Pond's East Beach This little beach (Waypoint #4), on property owned by the Town of Plymouth, can be accessed from the forest road that runs along the eastern side of the pond. Unlike Great Island Pond's north beach, this beach is generally kept clean because it is often used as a camping site. The campers generally have more respect for the beach that the kids who party at the northern beach. I spoke to a guy named Dana who was camping at the beach. Dana is known as 'the beach cleaner' by the locals. He has been camping there for 20 years. He told me that besides cleaning the beach, he also cuts down the rope swings that the kids put up there. (a kid got killed at this beach in an accident involving a rope swing and there is a a small plaque there left in memory.) |
