Spring Is In The Air!
It's time to start thinking about the outside of your home and getting ready for what warmer weather means to your lawn. The management company has provided us with a schedule for the season relative to the comprehensive fertilization program that will be performed for all lawn areas here at Great Island. The landscaping contractor provides this servIce.
April - Balanced fertilizer with pre-emergent crabgrass control. April - Lime.
May - Weed and feed.
June - Grub control/surface insect and balanced fertilizer.
August - Slow release fertilizer with weed control.
October - Balanced fertilizer with Iron.
October - Lime.
Due to the heavy acidity level in the soil, they will provide two lime applications per year. During the last week of June the grub control/surface insect control and balanced fertilizer application is completed. The next application will be the first week of August. As a general rule, they will avoid weed control on newly seeded areas automatically. If a homeowner has specific concerns with respect to fertilization, they may contact the landscaping contractor directly.
Homeowners should avoid treating their lawns themselves as doing so may have an adverse affect when combined with the current program in place. If a homeowner does not want to be fertilized on a given application, they should contact the landscaping contractor.
For those of you who re-mulch, the community standard for mulch is chocolate brown, and double ground pine bark mulch.
Exterior water faucets can now be turned on. The outside spigot and inside bleeder valve should be in the open position. You will need to turn these both off before opening the interior shut off.
Have a warm and wonderful spring!
