Re: Pet Control in Great Island
Original Version
Pet control has been an ongoing topic since this community was built. On a regular basis, we remind people of the responsibilities that are required of pet owners. The great majority of our neighbors are respectful of the neighborhood in the manner that they take care of their pets. This memo is not directed at those people.
As the community has grown, we are seeing an increase in the complaints about improper control of pets. Based on this recent increase in violations, the Advisory Committee is implementing a rigid procedure to help reduce this nuisance. A few comments:
- There already is a procedure in place for warning, and then fining residents that violate the Pet Control policy. This has been approved by the Great Island Board of Directors.
- The Pinehills Pet Control Restrictions are fairly specific:
1.1.6 Restrictions on Animals:
All Animals permitted to be kept shall be kept under control on a leash when on any portion of Pinehills except within the Parcel of the owner of such Animal. It shall be the absolute duty and responsibility of each owner to clean up after such Animals which have used any portion of the Common Area.
- The use of Common Area land for allowing dogs to relieve themselves, delicately known as “doing Number 1” causes damage to the lawns and shrubbery that are maintained and paid for with our HOA funds. Take note of the numerous spots in certain common areas within Great Island.
As important, allowing pets to relieve themselves on other homeowners’ private property is an equally unacceptable practice. Your neighbors are bearing the cost to remove these unsightly and damaging spots.
The Advisory Committee believes both of these actions are violations.
A rigid procedure is now in place to warn, and subsequently fine residents with any Pet Control violations. We ask you to be in control of your pets’ actions so that we can continue to keep Great Island a wonderful place to live. If you see a violation, you need not confront the person. Simply notify the property manager of the violation. It will be necessary to identify yourself, but this information will be kept confidential.
