Chartering

The chartering of clubs and activities is a component of Del Webb communities around the country. The authority to charter clubs lies with the Board of Directors. The Association Board (Homeowners’ Advisory Committee) is responsible for coordinating and implementing policy for chartered clubs, allocating facility space and assisting clubs with operational concerns. The Association Board and Management have designated the Lifestyle Director to assume responsibility for assisting clubs with facility scheduling, special programs and publicity/promotion. This individual is the focal point for coordinating all Association club matters of interest.

In the spring of 2006, the concept of chartering clubs and/or activities was introduced to Great Island. The Homeowners’ Advisory Committee and the Lifestyle Director met to modify the master Del Webb communities’ Chartered Club Operating Manual to meet the needs of the Great Island community. It was determined that the charter club concept would be implemented due to its many benefits to the community. These benefits include:

. Chartered clubs are sponsored by the Homeowners’ Association to provide an opportunity for all Association members to pursue common interests or hobbies, recreational social and cultural endeavors.

. To allow for leadership and stability of clubs.

. Club financial programs are developed to ensure basic selfsufficiency.

. When applicable, a Club’s treasurer is responsible for controlling and recording club revenues and expenses.

. Chartered Clubs are not permitted to set a restrictive precondition for membership; therefore allowing fair opportunity for all residents to become members of clubs and to participate in any activity.

. Assures allocation of required space for the Club to meet and hold scheduled events.

As the Great Island community continues to grow, space allocation in our Clubhouse becomes more challenging. In an effort to assure space for clubs or activities on a regular basis, only Chartered Clubs will be guaranteed space.

Beginning September 1, 2007 clubs or activities that are not chartered may not reserve space on a regular basis. Such clubs or activities may choose to continue to utilize space in a non-scheduled manner; however Chartered Clubs will have precedence over utilization of space.

If you are in charge of an activity or club that meets regularly and would like to find out more about “chartering”, please speak with the Lifestyle Director who will explain the process to you and provide you with the proper documentation.

Small groups that do not substantiate the need for governing bylaws, club officers, or operating funds will simply be required to complete an application for Charter that will be kept on file with the Lifestyle Director. This application will provide information such as the name of the contact person, when the club meets and in what location.

The following is a list of Clubs and/or Activities that are currently chartered with governing by-laws, officers and operating funds.
